Persephone Pearl Necklace
We all fall to rise again. Intricate freshwater pearls and pomegranate charms with ruby accents symbolize the Goddess-governed cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
Persephone is a Goddess of the Underworld, and became bound there during the winter seasons due to ingesting one pomegranate seed. Her mother, Demeter (Goddess of grains and land fertility) mourns her daughters absence in the winters by turning the earth barren until Persephone returns in the spring.
As the pomegranate fruit becomes ripe in late autumn, it prompts Persephone's return to the Underworld and reminds us of the death that winter brings us. But, the fruit's blood red seeds, represented by ruby beats in this piece, represent the life giving blood that is brought forth in spring.
