About
Through her art-driven lifestyle brand punkwasp, artist Carrie Marill is on a mission to bring unique and unexpected style to the world through ethically made pieces that stand up to life’s adventures.
California born, USA-made, globally inspired
Carrie has been a full-time artist since 2004. Her career has allowed her to travel the world and during her explorations, she has collected beads, fabric, weavings, folk art and tools. She brings it all back to her studio for inspiration and designs small batch apparel and handmade jewelry for PUNKWASP.
“I like to have fun with my creations, whether it’s through making paintings, jewelry or clothing; creating patterns, embracing color and living life with an artist’s eye — this is how I express my visual language to the world.”
From there, everything happens stateside, from designing and handcrafting jewelry in our lil studio to partnering with USA-based producers, right down to our garment tags. It’s a sweet lil local ecosystem.
Taking things slow
Thoughtless mass production is no bueno for the planet. That’s why Carrie creates with intention: making jewelry by hand, carefully sourcing deadstock fabric and sustainable materials, and seeking out small-scale domestic producers. It takes longer, but it’s worth it. Besides, the scenic route is always way more fun.
“With all of my creations, I aim to make something unique and comfortable that will stand the test of time.
Made by badass women for badass people

Meet the artist
Carrie Marill was born in San Francisco, CA in 1976. As an artist, she draws inspiration from a vast body of research - from folk art quilts and Persian miniatures to propaganda posters and industrial design. Marill is inspired by the tension between ornament and object, intellectual and aesthetic. She approaches each work with a disciplined philosophy of color and form to entice her audience to engage her work on many levels of beauty, concept, and the invitation to lose themselves in art amongst the noise of the contemporary world.
In addition to displaying her work at galleries and institutions internationally, Marill’s practice includes developing large-scale outdoor murals for public and private clients. Marill also designs and creates jewelry, prints, clothing, and accessories for her lifestyle business called PUNKWASP, allowing her to share her aesthetic and artistic vision with a wider audience.
Marill graduated from San Francisco State University in 2002 with a BA in Painting and received an MFA in Painting from Cornell University in 2004. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States in California, New York, Seattle, Miami, Dallas, and Arizona. Marill's work has been published in New American Paintings, Wired Magazine, Southwest Art, The New Times, The Wall Street Journal, Modern Painters, LA Weekly, and the LA Times. Her work is in the collections of Todd Oldham, Missoni, Disney, Tiffany’s, The Hallmark Collection, and many other exciting collectors.
